When we BELIEVE we have no choice, we will not SEE

When we BELIEVE we have no choice, we will not SEE any other choices.

But if you believe you always have a choice, you will see other possibilities.

The more often we think or believe that there is no other choice, we are reinforcing all those neural pathways in the brain that hold that belief in place.

Give this one a try and catch yourself when you’re doing something because you think you have to do it and don’t have any other choices. It’ll feel uncomfortable and that means you’re on the right path; the path of freedom.

👉🏼Being autistic means I experience the world differently, like noise that doesn’t just stay outside, but echoes inside my brain.

I can’t turn it off. It’s not just a preference. It’s sensory overwhelm. And it’s disabling because it creates so much frustration in my body.

At the time, my parents saw me as finicky or too particular. But I was just trying to cope and asking for what I really needed.

Eventually, I moved out - not to prove a point, but because I had asked for what I needed, again and again.

✨And the most secure thing I could do… was choose me.

Securely attached people know that they’re responsible for meeting their own needs, and they’re also ok with making difficult choices, even if that disappoints other people (such as parents and family members).

🪞Learning that I’m autistic makes the whole thing make a lot more sense, but regardless of that label, all I was doing was taking responsibility to meet my own needs.

⚡️Couples lose sleep when there’s conflict because there isn’t enough security in the relationship.

This is why we stay up and fight or ruminate.

🧯It’s because our alarm bells are going off and we’re experiencing so much anxiety.

It’s a trauma response. While our lives are not at risk, our brains perceive it as such a great threat to our wellbeing. And rightfully so, because we don’t have confidence that we will be heard, understood, and our needs will be met.

⚠️Our bodies are pumping cortisol and we’re definitely triggered, which means that the outcome will not be positive. Even if we do achieve resolution, we will have strengthened this pattern in our minds and bodies that tells us we have to stay up and fight/resolve things.

Having personally struggled with this pattern for years, I know that the only way to change this pattern is to have both people go through holistic healing - must target the mind, body, and breath. Otherwise, you’re just stuck in this cycle. And it just sucks. 😖

And what’s remarkable is how quickly this can change once both people do their healing! ❤️‍🩹

If you’re waiting around for a secure partner to come along… I’ve got news for you: you might be waiting for a really long time.

And you won’t be securely attached every minute of every day either. Insecurities are natural and they will come up from time to time.

So let’s aim for a practical, achievable thing: being with someone who is absolutely committed to their own growth and transformation. And this takes time to figure out… so give yourself that!

Things aren’t always what they seem, so give yourself plenty of time to really figure this out.

For example, I once dated a personal transformation coach who refused to do anymore inner work 😖

That was my sign that it wasn’t going to work and that it was time to exit the relationship.

My current partner didn’t know anything about attachment when we first met. His commitment to his inner work wasn’t always as clear as it is today, so hence, you’ll need a lot of time to see if it’s working for you or not. And you’ll need support in maintaining your own commitment to this work as well. I had A LOT of support and still do.

One thing I knew about myself was that I was in NO RUSH to do the whole marriage and settling down thing. I had done that once and welp, we all know how that turned out 🤪😭

I wanted a partnership that prioritized inner work, self-awareness, and conscious living and regardless of how my intimate relationships turned out, I was always going to be walking this path.

It wasn’t a destination, it was the journey that continues and evolves, and continues to surprise us in so many ways. 🌟

I grew up with a mostly insecure-anxious attachmen

I grew up with a mostly insecure-anxious attachment style and I brought it into my first marriage, which ended within the first 2 years.

After I got divorced, I went through 5 years of healing, trying to figure out what happened.

I eventually learned that the only thing that predicts success in marriage is attachment styles.

Looking back, I can see how those unconscious insecurities created false narratives in my mind and caused so much stress and frustration for me and my partner at the time.

After healing, I am now an entirely different person because everything in my mind and body has changed. My relationship with myself has fundamentally changed and thus, so have all my other relationships.

And now we have built a community of clients all around the world who have also changed in the same way.

I continue to do this work because it works. And it’s proven. It doesn’t just help you, it actually changes your entire life.
